Dr Emma Witkowski

Dr Emma Witkowski is a leading esports academic and digital ethnographer. She brings her expertise on esports, networked game cultures, and media sports studies to the advisory board. Her work has focused on high-performance cultures of play, and she has published and presented on topics such as Pro/Am tournaments, gender, and games, codes of practice, live streaming, spectatorship and mega-LANs. She is known for her previous work as co-founder of LetzPlay – a state and commercially funded initiative in Denmark aimed at increasing access and mentorship for young women and their involvement with games in leisure and as a career. She is the co-director of the Playable Media Lab at RMIT University (Melbourne), and Senior Lecturer teaching into the Bachelor of Games Design degree. Emma holds a Ph.D. in Game Studies from the IT University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
