Immerse yourself in a unique forum developed by the leaders of the Learning and Development community

A business’s success lies with its people, so harnessing and developing the talent within is crucial in maintaining and growing competitive advantage in business. This strikes at the key raison d’etre for the L&D Symposium: how do L&D leaders continue to navigate their work becoming an evermore key strategic business function?

Technological development, scarcity of talent and the economic climate has only heightened the importance of the development and end-to-end employee experience, L&D leaders need to move quickly to adapt to these changes to set their business and their people up for success.

Now in it’s fourth year, The L&D Symposium returns on 12th-13th June 2025 in the beautiful Hunter Valley. The event will bring together 120 of the most influential leaders in Learning & Development from the most renowned organisations in Australia and New Zealand.

Adapt. Evolve. Stay Relevant.

Five Key Themes for the L&D Symposium in 2025:

  • What Should the Future Value Prop of L&D Be? This should be a no brainer, right? Yet a question we’re asking ourselves again and again is ‘how do we demonstrate value to the business?’. Where there’s change, you’ll always need L&D… and there’s always change.
  • AI & Technology. It’s a game changer, and it’s taking over everything. We’ll be exploring how AI goes beyond content creation and extends to automating tasks traditionally undertaken by L&D professionals.
  • Leadership Perennial, isn’t it? But the need to develop leadership skills as part of L&D is still right at the top of priority lists, especially as organisations evolve and business structures change.
  • Skills-Based Organisations Skills are at the heart of L&D and how is serves a business, but this year we’ll be looking beyond skills-based learning to how you build a skills-based organisation in a unified way.
  • Future Capabilities. It won’t be the first time you’ve heard this one, and it won’t be the last. As the L&D space is transformed by technology, we’re going to be asking what it means to stay relevant to the business and what are the profiles for the modern learning person.

Attendees at the Symposium are hand-picked to ensure the audience represents the most influential minds in the industry. Set in the picturesque Hunter Valley, far from the distractions of the office, attendees are given the rare opportunity to participate in a collaborative learning and networking environment that fosters peer-to-peer learning.

Operating under Chatham House rules, the prestigious forum encourages participants to candidly discuss industry opportunities and challenges and shape the future of workplace learning. The conference program has been crafted by a highly influential advisory board of L&D leaders.

Don’t miss the chance to learn, network and gain insights into the latest trends and strategies. Hear from our past delegates here on why the symposium is the must-attend L&D event in Australia.

EVENT OF THE YEAR The L&D HR Symposium is absolutely the standout People & Culture event of the year. The quality of speakers and attendees is incredibly high, and the Ashton Media team go to incredible efforts to make sure every detail is thought of (thank you!!). It truly is an immersive learning experience, filled with moments for genuine connection and inspiration. This was my second year and it was wonderful to re-connect with peers from last year, and meet so many incredible new people this year. Having the opportunity to bounce & build ideas in this community is truly so unique to a 'conference' experience. I feel re-energised after spending two days with so many amazing people and I can not wait for next year.

SPACE TO DIGEST NEW WAYS OF WORKING The symposium gives meaningful networking and development to HR professionals as well as the space to digest new ways of working and thinking.

PERFECT BLEND OF INSPIRATIONAL AND PRACTICAL CONTENT The L&D + HR Symposium was one of the most insightful conferences I attended in 2022 - a perfect blend of inspirational yet practical content. It's a privilege to be a part of the advisory board for this event in 2023, as we face into more complex people and workforce challenges ahead. To support how the event is saped and to share and learn together as an HR community is how we continue to evolve our impact within our organisations.

LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE Any L&D professional should definitely make the time to attend this event. It’s a wonderful two days, spending time with like-minded people, and taking the time to not only reflect on what you have been doing in the learning space, but hear from others, share challenges and experiences, and get new ideas on how you can improve learning in your organisation. I’d highly recommend this event and am already looking forward to next year!

MEANINGFULLY CONNECT The environment that’s been created, the opportunities to connect informally, the way people are mixed up and then put in situations where it’s very relaxed, no one’s under pressure. It it really just creates the right environment for people to connect and meaningfully connect.
